  • 3ds Max UI freezing for a few seconds after each render

    Hi,

i got a problem where entire 3ds Max UI completely freezes for 3-5 seconds each time render is finished. As soon as as render progress dialog disappears and rendertime pops up on the bottom left corner, the UI freezes. This is very frustrating when tweaking things and doing quick successive renders, as i always have to wait few seconds for UI to unfreeze before i can start inputting parameters. This happens only with Vray, not any othere renderers. Disabling Vray Log window did not help. Using Vray 2.40.04 and 3ds Max 2014 SP3.

I've had this problem to, mostly on large scenes. Sometimes restart helps, sometimes the problem disappears the next day. Maybe proxies or forest pack?

Do you have the progressive rendering going in the viewport?
That makes Vray's Frame Buffer hang completely...

Try without the Vray's FB or by disabling the progressive render in nitrous and see if this help.

      Cheers

True, i knew about it, but this time, even disabling progressive refinement did not help. Still hangs after finishing of each render. And no proxies or forestpack going on either. But it indeed feels like something just takes very long time to get refreshed in viewport each time render ends. Strange thing is that it always happens only with Vray. No other renderer does this.

It happens on all scenes you are working on or only on particular ones ?
What if you turn off Vray Frame Buffer and use Max Frame Buffer instead ?
How much memory is occupied during the rendering ? At the render end Vray usually frees ram-memory and this process could take a while depending on how much memory has been occupied.

Check you don't have any materials or composites being previewed in viewport. If removing all viewport textures fixes the problem, then make sure you only preview the maps in VP rather than any more complex composites or top level materials.
Not sure if this would fix it, but I had a similar issue that may have been fixed when I stopped previewing materials and/or composite maps.
            Many Thanks

Okay, sorry for a late reply... i have been quite busy

Scene took about 3GB of memory at peak. Switching to Max's native VFB did not help. And it happens in all of the scenes. What did help, was disabling display of textures in viewport. Now the freezing is still there, but a lot shorter. It is still very strange though, because it really happens only with Vray. I use also Mental Ray, Corona and Scanline, yet i never ever encounter this in when i use any other renderer than Vray.
