  • Render time vs. quality problems

    Hi,
I try to optimize my rendering time on a short animation with a camera moving slowly and some lights that turn on and off + a moving sun... the more funny part is that I can't use BF,
(I don't have a render farm !)... well, of course, I want to avoid flickering with all my lights
The scene is quite simple, just a little moving object - I can deal with it, there is no influence on GI. I just have some troubles with GI and flickering lights...
    so... !
What's the best way to deal with all that s%@#t and IR+LC ?
    Thanks a lot
    (Sorry for my bad english)

I don't think there is a proper way to handle that, unless you break your scene up into layers, like render each lighting layer and turn them on/off in comp, if you wish to use irradience map.

IRR mode: animation (prepass) & (rendering)? Since this works for moving objects, I assume it's also good for moving, animated lights.

my problem with animation prepass is that its a tedeous process, and after going through those manual steps you still see flickering, so you have to repeat it until you do not, but by that time your settings are so high it almost = just rendering with layers or brute force

also if had access to Nuke, and your camera is slow enough - this might work, http://juvano.com/Deflickering-with-Velocity-Pass

              I'm quite agree with you... But I just can't use BF... My scene is like a corridor with some ceiling lights, they turn off one after the other;

I don't have access to Nuke.... anyway, it seems to be quite interesting

I don't know of course what your budget is, but did you consider a remote farm like render core? they are quite reasonable. Could be better, then trying to manually do these things.

Well, I'm fighting with animation (prepass) & (rendering)... ATM my prepass is not finished, I just want to know if I can stop it and then continue later.
If yes, is there any trick I could have to do before restarting my render prepass ?

                    Thanks for your advices

I know I am going to be doing some rendering over the next week or so that involves lights switching on and off. I am thinking we will render slightly overlapping sequences with the lights at various states and then crossfade in after effects.

It is often suggested to use BF in these situations, but I can't see my rendering finishing this year if I were to go down that route. These are complex interior scenes with lots of objects and reflections etc. What kind of setup (both hardware and vray settings) do you guys use who are using BF to render an animation with moving objects/lights?
                      Kind Regards,
