  • Saving with wrong gamma?

For some reason, when I save from the v-ray frame buffer, my image saves fine, but when max is set to automatically save at render completion, it renders terribly dark. Any suggestions? I realize this might not be a v-ray problem, but possible max. I just thought I would post the concern here in case it is a v-ray frame buffer setting or something similar.

Here is how the image saves when I click the save icon from the frame buffer (which is correct):

Here is how the image saves automatically (incorrect):

We are using Max 2014 and V-Ray 2.40.04

It would be useful to know what your gamma setup in both max and vray, otherwise we're just shooting in the dark.

You have turned on the sRGB button in the VRay frame buffer. uncheck the sRGB button in the VRay FB, and change your color mapping settings that might say "Color and gamma", or "none (Don't apply anything)", or whatever those say, til one of those work..

This is a gamma issue as evident by only the midtones being the problem.

check also what is the file output gamma in max, some scripts like SolidRocks forces the max output to 1 and keeps that value without setting back the user's gamma.
execute in listener 'fileoutgamma' without apostrophes and see if is set to default 2.2.
