  • Bet you've never seen this happen before...

I just rendered out an image that has been rendering fine all week, in fact the small test render I did just before kicking off the large render was fine too... All I did was change the resolution to 4000x6000 and the rendered image has gone purple!

Now get this... The vray lens effects channel looks just fine. I thought maybe I'd pressed something that I shouldn't have on the Vray frame buffer, but I've checked all the buttons and all is as it should be. When I save it out and add ~60% to the green channel in the channel mixer in photoshop, it all looks fine. The green channel is just really dark for some reason.

I've seen this before many times. We are rendering high resolution, just like you. Never really understood the lens effects, a lot of weird stuff is going on there. Sometimes I have a totally yellow image, and very often colourfull noise or visible horizontal lines crossing the image. Especially in night shots.

Which V-Ray version is this? I think we fixed a similar issue some time ago, was related to memory allocation for large images.

Not at my work PC at the moment, but it (should be) whatever the latest 2.4 version is on the website; not a nightly build.

            Hi Macker,
Would it be possible to send us the scene file (with high resolution settings) to test with our latest builds?
I see similar issue already reported and want to make sure that this is the same case.

            Hi Oliver,

We are aware of this issue and working to solve it.

              Sure, FTP or email address?

You'll need the multitexture plugin btw.

You can send a link to support@chaosgroup.com or request for FTP access at the same mail. Don't forget to add this thread as a note.

Think that i can find multitexture 1.02 to test with.

                Thank you.

Excellent. Will zip it all up a bit later on then.

It's definitely the LensEffects, I've run into this (purple, sometimes green) before as well. Lowering the bloom/glare radius will fix the image btw. (Halve them and it'll be fine), but this is annoying.

Looking forward for the file. I hope to be able to replicate this render result.

We believe it's related to memory allocation; the lens effects are computed per component (red/green/blue) and need a large chunk of memory proportional to the image resolution. Sometimes for large images it fails to allocate the memory for some of the channels, f.e. the green one, and you get something like this.

                          Best regards,
                          Vlado
