  • VraySky renders BLUE

so im tyring to do a time lapse sequence (day night/day night) i have a VraySun linked to a circle, that orbits in a full 360, so i get a proper "24 hour" period.

when used with the VraySky and the sun goes into a negative/southern/far below the horizon space, insane blue values appear. any fix for that other than making sure your sun doesnt go too far down below the horizon?

The VRaySky only works for "day" time as it is linked to the sun
When the sun goes behind earth in lamens terms the stars and moon comes out. The VRaySky does not have functionality for this so I would recommend to cheat things when your sun's Z value goes below 0

Improvements in the sun/sky system has been asked many times in the past. You'll have to cheat stuff until then
      Kind Regards,
      Morne

yeah, thats a pity. i get that it only works for a "daytime" system and doesnt have a "star/nightime" system implemented... but i sure wish the VraySky didnt get insane blue values as the sun goes negative.

im sure the math involved in getting the Sky to react to the Sun is complex, but is it not doable for the sky to turn "off" when the sun goes too far south to avoid the blue blowout? vlado?

        thanks for the reply Morne.

i've keyframed the values to drop it to black just as the sun hits the horizon, rendered with a dusk hdri with some overlap either side and rendered with a night sky hdri with some overlap then faded between the 3 in post. if you keep the fade moving continuously you cant tell.

AH! thats a great idea. thanks! im gonna try some fancy expression so that the "Sun intensity multiplier" in the VraySky goes to zero as soon as the position of the sun hits a certain negative z value.

            THANKS CUBICLEGANGSTER!

Will definitely need to think of something; however we can't just make abrupt change to black, it needs to be sort of gradual...

I would really like to see a night part of sun and sky model... so its full 24h

+ a possible moon indirect cast of light on earth... + stars optional indirect light or just a very soft light...

A proper dusk would be amazing!

I just hope you don't want accurate star map or moon disk... otherwise the V-Ray installation will get quite a bit bigger

Hah. I think a special VrayDaylightSystem would be most welcome, with control for moon light etc. I've been begging AD for this for many years.

                          Uuuu tempting

With vismats is chaos planning any shader database like maxwell and so on on web ? Could put star/moon maps there :P

But for vray being very well groundedi n VIZ industry I think it would help a lot viz users with night mode... I haven't come a cross sun system that can do it yet.

We already have a number of .vrmat/.vismat files already available on the web site and you can download them if you wish. I believe the current ones are a bit low-res, but higher resolution versions are in the works.

                            Best regards,

Yup seen them a while back. I was wondering will there be any material manager that connect with chaos website and let us manage materials a bit easier(download, upload, community materials) or it stays manual?
