  • VraySun causing crash (only on one computer) - need help troubleshooting

For some reason one of the 3 workstations in the office is crashing when there is a VraySun in the scene. Delete or deactivate the sun and it works fine. If I leave the Vraysun active and it crashes, I see the Vray Render Log window for a split second -- I see globalillumination.cpp or something and then it crashes to the desktop instantly.

First question, is where is that error information stored? I used to know, but I forgot.

Second question -- has anyone experienced this or anything remotely similar? Where one computer will crash with a VraySun (or some specific Vray entity) and another one won't?

It's such strange behavior. This just started happening. For two years this computer has rendered all Vray scenes just fine.

    Hi,

    It's a very odd case.
Could you try to reset the 3DS Max on this machine with backup and remove the files in C:\Users\_current __user__\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMax\__max_versi on__\ ; folder
What is the exact v-ray version installed ?

Yes, a very odd case indeed.

      Its 2.404.

I reinstalled Vray (did not reset max). The problem went away for 2 days.

Now it's back again. This time a dome light is crashing max.

I kept investigating and I think I've isolated the problem to Hair Farm so I'll be check with them.

Try to unload all plugins except the V-Ray one and test again.
