  • z-depth & dome light alpha questions

    Couple issues that I'm having

What I'm expecting with the dome light & z-depth pass:

    - Dome light; when affect alpha is turned off, the image should still show - but the alpha will not be affected. Currently the image turns to black while not affecting the alpha.

    - The z-depth pass, I'd expect that if the background color is visible anywhere, it would give me a color to match the furthest distance. At the moment it's showing me the color of whatever is closest - so an inverted zdepth goes from white (foreground) to black, and then the empty space is returning as white...

Is this right? Maybe there's something I screwed up somewhere?

    I'm using vray 3.00.02

update: included .max file in link above
I installed 3.00.03 and opened this max file and still had the issue - but when I started a fresh scene the depth pass was working correctly. Still had the dome image turning black when affect alpha was unticked.

update2: depth info seems to be totally an issue with 3.00.02 - going back to this version I start a new scene and have immediate depth issues with the background. This issue seems to carry over when opened in the new version - but I suppose the old scene could be merged into a new one to resolve this?

    thanks

Thank you very much for your feedback.
It seams that you are right - there is something wrong with the Depth in the scene you sent us - was it created with 3.00.02 ?
Could you please try to remove VrayZDepth element and add it again - it seams that it works fine here after that operation at least in 3.00.03.
According to the Dome Light affect alpha issue - I am going to report it in our database and I'll update this thread when we have fix about it.

      Svetlozar,

Thanks for the response - the issue was resolved by removing the element and replacing it with a new one. (3.00.02)
The element must have been quite old, revived from an old project.

edit: just tested the test.max file in v-ray 2.4, no issue with the depth pass. still not sure when the pass was originally created or what version - but it seems to break when jumping to v-ray 3.0

      Thanks

It could be from the beta-version as well.
If you could find out from which version it comes we could pass the case to our devs for further investigation.
