  • Distributed rendering confusing two scenes

This is one of those problems that I can't replicate easily but it's definitely an odd one I've not encountered before.

Our setup is two people, a workstation each, sharing a number of other machines for DR rendering. Normally this doesn't cause any major problems but yesterday both my colleague and I had DR renders going at the same time and the buckets on my machine were bringing back information from his scene.

The buckets seem to only have rgb data, no alpha or other channels. I checked and there are no assets naming conflicts and the problem stopped as soon as my colleague disabled DR from his machine.

If it helps, he was using 'transfer assets' on his render and I was not.

    Very strange!

I guess that this would be very difficult to reproduce. Most probably your dr-temp-scene has been overridden by his one before being loaded from 3DSMax.
How many VraySpawners are launched on the slave-machines ? Are you using the same Vray/Max versions ?

All machines running the same versions of max and V-Ray, only one VraySpawner running on each slave.

We work this way pretty regularly - i.e. each rendering tests, with all slaves in the DR list, so a first come first serve basis. If it happens again I'll see if I can pinpoint which machine (if it's just one) is the problem and any other variables that I might have missed.

Let us know if it happens again, it could be one in a million bug.
