  • Dr Rendering from home to work?

    Hi Vlado,

    Long time no speak....
Question for you, i need to connect to my Renderfarm from home to my studio and use DR from work to home. Is this possible? and any suggestions on the best practises would be gratefully received! ..

    Hi Natty,

I've done this a number of times recently. We use LogMeIn Hamachi to set up the network and a remote desktop application (currently, LogMeIn Pro) to access the machines on the farm (I say farm, we have 4-5 spare machines set up for DR).

The only issue is making sure your assets are in a place all machines can see. The new 'transfer assets' function in 3.0 would be a big help in this regard but it can still be a pain if you've got large textures/files to send over the internet.

It is certainly possible and I use it from time to time, though I directly connect to our office VPN, set up the servers with Remote desktop and then just add the IPs to my laptop at home.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

I did that with amazon... it was not too good but I guess it was not mean to be good if the server is on different continent :/
