  • Vray tools for 3.0: VrayBump2Normal and VrayDomeEnvironment

I recently upgraded to Vray 3.0. Sadly I can not open any of my old scenes because they all contain one of the maps mentioned above. Checked the Vray tools site here, and it seems that they were not updated to work with 3.0. Can we please get these?

Does anybody here have the same issue? This is keeping me from using 3.0, because I constantly need these maps.

VRayDomeEnvironment is now integrated directly in VRayHDRI (the ground environment options); I do have a recompile of bump2normal and you can email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com to get it, but we might just include it in the installation...

      Best regards,
      Vlado

Thanks Vlado for the hint with the DomeEnvironment. I will write a mail tomorrow regarding bump2normal.

            Vlado,
please... I am desperately wanting to try out Vray 3.0, but I can't. As I said, I can not open any of my old scenes until I have that recompile of Bump2Normal.

I've updated the tools page with recompiles for V-Ray 3.0:
              http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/misc/

Out of curiosity, what do you use this for in all your scenes? It was originally meant for texture baking of normal maps.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

Really? I often use Bump2Normal to quickly convert greyscale maps or procedurals to normal maps. On many materials, especially for cars (fabrics, grain patterns on dashboards and the like), it makes a small difference in quality. The bump is more defined at glancing angles. Maybe I used it wrong all the time, but that is my observation.

You can certainly use it that way; I was just wondering why.

It is quite convenient, too. The client often provides loads of maps for the materials used. Converting all of them to normal maps with other tools is quite time consuming. Much easier to just plug them into the bump2normal inside Max itself. I can't imagine working without it anymore.

                      Regards and thanks again

                        Hi Vlado.

I've tried to use in vray 3.00.05, Bump2Normal but I could not make it work.
The box shows the color but not the result. In the render, I do not see the effect of that convrecion.

Is there any tutorial to see how this system works.?

                        Greetings.

Would it be possible to send us your setup for investigation?
Thank you very much in advance.

I've just tried to use the vraybump2normal map too, and I can get the normal-map result to appear in the diffuse channel, but when I put it into the bump channel, I get nothing.
                            Any ideas?
