  • Standard material ignores by OverrideMtl.

It will be ignored if a Standard material is set to Base of OverrideMtl in V-Ray 3.0.
    (at least 3.00.04 same)

    With V-Ray 2.40 no problem.

Please correct this problem from a point of compatibility.

    Hi,

Thank you for pointing this out. We will forward this case to our developers.

We will probably not fix this. Support for mixing V-Ray compatible and Standard materials caused us a lot of headaches and slowed down V-Ray quite a bit.

      Best regards,

Ok. It is the specification of V-Ray 3.0.

I also noticed that VrayMtlWrapper in Vray 3 didn't work with standard material anymore. It used to be fine with Vray 2.40. But, everything went ok once we switched from standard to vray material. Any chance of adding "Visible to GI" switch in VrayMtlWrapper? I recalled that someone made a request before.

            Best regards,
            Gavin

It doesn't work for me too. I'm not sure if this is a bug or it is on purpose so I logged in into our system.
We'll update this thread when I got some news on that regard.

This is intentional. Support for Standard materials limited our ability to optimize V-Ray and for V-Ray 3.0, in many cases where the choice was speed vs support for standard stuff, we chose speed.

                Yes, we will do that.

Another thing - when clicking "Shadows" in VrayMtlWrapper, it still doesn't show shadows; but in Vray 2.4 the shadow showed up right away. Is there anything changed here in Vray 3?

Also, the settings from the VrayMtlWrapper should override those from the Object Vray Properties (this was indicated in the manual and Vray 2.40 acted exactly like this). It seems that Vray 3 doesn't act the same way as in Vray 2.40...

                    Thanks,

                    Gavin

Works fine for me in a quick test; if you have a scene where it doesn't, can you attach it?

                        Hey Vlado,

I created a simplified version of the file just to save some space. This file was working perfectly fine in Vray 2.4. It will be great if you can take a look.

BTW, I'm still using v3.00.03 but I guess this shouldn't be the case, though.

                        Thanks,

                        Gavin

The normal of the matte object has been flipped, if you flip back it will work as expected.
It seems that in Vray 3.0 the normal of the matte is taken into account - not sure if this is on purpose though.

I just did a quick test with version 2.4 and it produce the same result - when the normal is pointing out the matte doesn't capture shadows, so no changes on that regard in Vray 3.x
