  • Vray Light - directional parameter problem in Vray 2.4

    Hi guys,

turning on directional parameter in simple playne Vray light makes the light render pitch black.

Cant see any reason why it should behave this way.

Is this a known issue? Bug?

    Thanks for a reply

What value are you setting it to?

      0,5 value....to simulate a spotlight.
this happens in various scenes...i have to work around this placing a plane with a vray light mat on it bellow the light itself and excuding it from being visible by the real light

If you are looking at the light from the side, then it's normal that it's darker - after all, you've told it to emit light forward, not sideways.

that would be fine if it was just dimmer, but its pitch black and i see the light from normal human perspective and the light is on a ceiling thats 3m high...imagine looking at something on the ceiling at a 45 degree angle...
Perhaps it better using the workaround.

Hmm, if you can post a simplified version of the scene it will help to figure out if it's a bug or not.

            Best regards,

Is the directionality of your light narrower than your angle of viewing it?
For instance, if you're looking at your light from a 45 degree angle, and it's emiting light at a 35 degree spread - then it would be pure black to your eyes since you're standing outside of the light it's casting. Think of it like the light is being recessed in a hole that's blocking your direct view of it.

have also posted about this in past...I have not checked lately but yesterday I did and it still seems to happen.
it happened if went beyond a certain directional amount number (can't recall.) It was also happening if light is invisible (shows as a black rectangle in reflections.)
