  • I can't open maxfiles that use VRay and can't create VRaylights in new files......

    Hi all.

I've been working with VRay 3 since it's release and updated it to 3.00.05 (I know there is a 3.00.06) with no problems until this morning. I tried to open a maxfile that I've been working on for a number of weeks and it fails every time. Other machines here can open it with no problems. So I started going through a few processes i use to recover files. I merged in to a new file the objects bit by bit until it crashed. All was well until I tried to merge in three VRaylights. So I tried again, one at a time, each on crashed the maxfile.

So from this evidence i assumed that these lights were the problem. I then tried to open a few maxfiles that use VRay lights. All crashed. I then opened a maxfile that did not use VRay and it opened with no problem.

I then started a new maxfile, loaded in VRay, drew a couple of objects and rendered no problem. I then tried to create a VRaylight....................you guessed it.............there was a problem. When I click on the button absolutely nothing happens. I can create a VRaysun and other VRay objects such as planes and proxys. Just not VRaylights.

I've uninstalled VRay and re-installed. Still the same. I've updated to 3.00.06, still the same.

So now I am currently uninstalling max, to re-install everything and see if that fixes the problem. I will post back with my findings, but in the mean time, I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to what it might be that has caused this nightmare.

    Cheers.

    Hello Andy,

The issue seems to be related to some of the internal vray-files that comes with vray installation. Reinstalling Vray should fix that but for some reason this is not the case.
Have you changed anything on your system recently?
Please keep us posted about the status of the issue after 3DSMax is being reinstalled.

If this file is 0kb... then replace it with another copy (should be 3kb)
