  • Bitmap mapped as "Screen Environment" not working as Bumpmap

    Hi,

We were about to use a bitmap as bumpmap in a project. The bitmap was supposed to be mapped in "screen" type, so that we could draw some cracks on surfaces directly on a preview render to have them on exactly these positions later on.

While if I take the map for example as a mask for a blendmaterial it works fine, but when I try to use it as BUmpmap, vray throws errors about invalid bumpnormals. When using the VRayColor2Bump the errors are gone but the map has no effect at all.
    Software:
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1
    3ds Max 2016 SP4
    V-Ray Adv 3.60.04

    Hardware:
    Intel Core i7-4930K @ 3.40 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 (4096MB RAM)
    64GB RAM

Despite the warning everything works fine on our side, is that true on your side?
I have also noticed that if the bump map is projected via Camera Map Per Pixel node the warning doesn't appear.

I will doublecheck again. Either way that warning should not be a good sign, right? ^^

I didn't come to doublecheck again since I solved the problem otherwise for the moment but what I did notice is that when I use a regular bumpmap and then mask said bumpmap by adding/subtracting a screenmapped bitmap via the composite map it throws no errors and works fine. Just as a note.

          Thanks for the feedback.
We'll make a note about it into our system and we will inform you when we have some news about it.
