  • vrayEdgeTex scaling problem

    Hello,

We like the vrayEdgeTexture a lot for the rounded corners effect in Archviz. Using it in worldspace mostly.

There's a scaling issue though, please look at the attachement; Scaled geometry also has a scaled corner effect!

This does not always make sense; we work a lot with imported geometry from Revit, Archicad and such. Almost by definition the models are scaled to match our production scale. It would be better if the scale would be a true world size, independent to the geomtery scale. Or is there another solution?

    Thanks,
    Caspar

Yes this could be really annoying with imported geometry. For example a button that makes the EdgesTex map independent from the object scale would be very useful here.

As we all know Max behaves very unexpectedly when scale-tool is used. The issue is not particularly related to VrayEdgeTex it is bounded to every tool like chamfer for example.
Try to chamfer the same edges of both cubes and you will notice that the same chamfer-distance will produce very different result likewise VrayEdgeTex.
The solution to this issue is to always apply ResetXForm modifier after the geometry has been scaled - by doing so Max will reset objects-scale attribute and the operations applied afterward will work as they should.

Can this be don't without breaking instances?

Actually we had a similar problem in V-Ray for Modo where we had to add some code to counteract the scaling; we can easily add an option for this to 3ds Max and I'll make a note for it.

          Best regards,

That would be great!! ...For some reason I always have to reset the xforms when importing Revit...the scaling is always off.
