  • Linear Workflow deprecated

    Hello chaos forum !

    According to the doc :
Linear workflow - this option is deprecated and will be removed in future versions of V-Ray.
My question is, do you have any short deadline to remove this feature (like vray 3.1.) or this will be in a long future (vray 4 )

My problem is, we are finishing a series production with this option on. And we are going soon to begin the season 2, where the goal is to change minimum things in textures/shaders/pipeline (even while migrating from v2.4 to v3)

I've recreate my same environment, from max 2013 / vray 2.4 to max 2015 / vray 3, but is it safe to start a production with linear workflow activated ?
We used to make some vray minor upgrade during production.
By the way, i've tried to find an alternative without this option, but i'm loosing myself in the deep ocean of linear workflow and gamma understanding...

    Thanks for helping

It will not be removed any time soon. But really the best way to do things with the latest builds is to just keep everything at the default values, both in V-Ray and in the latest versions of 3ds Max.

      That mean :
      - 3ds gamma 2.2 ON and affect color selectors & material editor
      - Color mapping Reinhard, gamma 2.2

and with a standard vray exposure ISO 200 and a basic sun & vray sky, things are completely brights

Yes, and the color mapping mode set to "Color mapping only" (which is the default).

Yes? If you follow the "sunny 16 rule", it seems to work fine:
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunny_16_rule

For example, f-number 16, ISO 100 and shutter speed 1/100; or ISO 200 and shutter speed 1/200.

        Best regards,
        Vlado
