  • unhandled exception when rendering hair and fur as mr_prim

in vray 3 (actually was doing this in vray 2.404 too but I hoped it would work in 3)

should the mr_prim render method for hairs be faster/use less ram? Curious what the advantages are over geom -- and what might be making it unstable...

Generally the Geometry mode should be faster, but when huge amount of hairs are used, the speed may go down. It requires a lot of memory.
The Mr prim mode is more optimized, uses less memory and allows you to render more hair prims.

If you have this error "unhandled exception " with specific scene, please send the files to our support@chaosgroup.com mail for further investigation. Thank you.

Scene is pretty huge -- I think I've narrowed it down to trying to use mr_prim when the hair mod uses a geom instanced node...

Another strange artifact I'm seeing is that if I render mr_prim hairs in vray with ozone atmospherics enabled it seems to screw up the alpha channel of the vray hairs...!

Do you have a stripped scene to test this? I will try to run a test using the Ozone plugin.

Actually I managed to reproduce the alpha issue in my test using Ozone 6 and V-Ray 2.4 / hair & Fur mr prim mode.
I will run few more tests to localize the problem.

Update: It is a bug and we have reported it to our developers.
          Thanks.

Hey -- just to confirm, this is a bug in vray, not Ozone?

It has to be confirmed by our developers, but for now it is considered as a bug in V-Ray. If it is necessary, we will contact the E-On team as well.
