  • UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Preparing instance

    We are rendering with 3dsmax 2014 (commandline renderer) using vray 2.40.04
    Some frames get rendered and then the next frame crashes on the same client with the following error message:
    UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Preparing instance

    what might be the causes for this error?

    Hi,

    Is it reproducible on every machine and every time you start new render using this scene?
    Do you have any dynamic geometry in the scene like displacement, fur, proxy ,..

    What is the Default geometry option set to?

      Also, do you have Forest Pack or MultiScatter?

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        Hi Vlado. I'm having exactly the same problem. I am using forest pro and railclone. In other scenes I do not seem to get these crashes...this particular one seems to crash intermittently.

        This is the error:

        [2015/Mar/27|15:37:31] error: UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: Rendering region (400,816)-(416,832)
        Last marker is at ./src/globillummap.cpp, line 1903: GlobalIllumMap::buildLightMap() {5}

          I managed to resolve this. After checking the objects in the scene I noticed that the vray memory option was set to dynamic with 0 in the amount. I changed this to AUTO and all is fine now.

            Thanks for the update Steve. Usually this happens when the max memory has been reached.
