  • Vray 3 - Lens effect dialoge issue

For some reason enabling Object ID or Material ID in the VFB does not work.

To make it work you just need to enable these Masks via Environment and Effects settings, and only after that the effect is applied properly.

This is a known issue and our developers are working on it.
We'll let you know as soon as we have updates on that matter.

Also another question - how do I set up the lens effect per camera? (I want different values per view)
Its not available via scene states...

Actually you can't. The only approach that I could suggest is to render all camera views to Vrimg files, then load them one by one in VFB and apply V-Ray lens effects.

Something that might also work is to try setup all cameras on different animation frames and then animate the lens effects from the "Environment and effects" 3DS Max window according to the selected camera.

By the way, I if you apply Lens Effect via Environment (to get mask Object ID or Material ID to work) and then use VFB to control it, The Lens Effect via Environment causes White dots to appear on reflective objects.
Did not find a way around so it only depends on VFB to be fixed.

Never thought that this could be a workaround, it is a good idea. Do you have a scene for this just to check what causes these white dots?

We will post here as soon as this bug is fixed.

I searched a little while and realized its might be because of Sub-Pixel-Mapping. For some reason Lens Effect keeps ignoring it.

Is there an estimation when it will be fixed and posted?

No, not yet, as it is not trivial to find a solution. The lens effects need the full unclamped color output, without subpixel mapping so that they can produce correct bloom/glare. However you can maybe use the "max ray intensity" parameter instead.

                Best regards,
                Vlado
