  • Max 2014 won't build 3d space after v-ray 3.0 install - HELP! (not finding license)

I am in the process of updating from v-ray 2.40.04 to v-ray 3.00.07, but I've got very stuck. I have successfully (finally) installed the dongle, v-ray license server and v-ray render node onto two render nodes, and moved on to my local machine. I ran the installer, and selected to uninstall previous versions. It finished installing and I started up max. Everything seems to work fine, the GUI for max loads, all the new toolbars for v-ray load, but the viewport grid never loads (it suddenly did while writing this email). What actually seems to happen is that is takes about 5 minutes to load Max!

After the viewport finally loads, I check the render license for v-ray, and it says that it doesn't have one. So I check the paths for the license servers, which look correct. I then check the "Change V-Ray client license settings" program, where the servers seem to be correct, but I can't close that properly. It says "Could not save settings".

I am running win 7, and my user has local administrator rights.

I really need help on this as I am now not able to work on this computer.

    Cheers,

    Bill

p.s. this is a duplicate thread from another part of the forum as I discovered that it was in the wrong place.

I have now found out what the problem is.

The correct port for the license server was not open on the license server machines. We have now opened it, and Max and V-ray work correctly now.

    Cheers,

    Bill
