  • Trouble with Quick Settings errors on Vray 3 and 3dsmax Design 2014

I am having trouble with the new Version of vray. Im using Max design 2014. When I click on the Quick Settings Button from the toolbar, I get a maxscript error.

For example if i click on the Vray Quick Settings button from the Vray toolbar, I get a MAXscaript Rollout Handler Exception runtime error: Can't load Button Images: bitmap "vray\quickUIicons.bmp"

The Quick Settings dialog box opens (underneath the error pop-up and under the Maxscipt window. But all the icons are missing from the buttons. If I click on the Exterior button for example, i get an error: -No "get" function for undefined.

All of the other Vray Toolbar buttons seem to work.

    Any advice for me?

First could you please specify the following things:

    The exact V-Ray version (like 3.00.07 f.e.).
Service Pack version of 3DSMax Design 2014.
The Operating System installed on the machine.
    User Account Type (Standard/Administrator).

Have you already tried to re-install V-Ray?

      I am using 3dsmax Design 2014 and SP5.
      Vray version 3.00.07
Windows 7 64 Bit with Admin Priveleges

I tried installing Vray on another PC with the same specs and I get the same problem. Everything is working but the Quick Settings toolbar button and Quick Settings dialog box.

I installed Vray as administrator. I just re-downloaded the vRay EXE and reinstalled but get the same errors.

Are there some User Paths that may not be registering? Any suggestions on how to fix this? I really want to use the Quick Settings!

      Thanks.

By the way, i searched for the missing Icons. They exist on my PC in this location:

        C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014\scripts\V-Ray\QuickUIIcons.bmp

        Does that mean anything?

          Hello,
We were unable to reproduce this problem here. It seems that the file is where it should be. It is strange that the path starts with "vray\" rather than "V-Ray". I am attaching the script file, would You replace it and try again, otherwise a re-install should do the work too.

          Best regards,
          Alexander

That did not do anything. Here is the information in the Maxscript listener window:

"sLib v 1.32 has been loaded"
            -- Error occurred in theFastSettingsRollout.open(); filename: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014\scripts\startup\vrayquicksettings.ms; position: 26850; line: 669

            -- listTypeItems: undefined
            -- productionRender: V_Ray_Adv_3_00_07:V_Ray_Adv_3_00_07
            -- MaxVer: 16000
            -- scriptsPath: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2012\scripts"
            -- listCustomPresets: undefined
            >> MAXScript Rollout Handler Exception:
            -- Runtime error: Can't load Button images: bitmap: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2012\scripts\V-Ray\QuickUIIcons.bmp" <<
            Anything else to try?

              Hi,
there seems to be a discrepancy in the result of the script (MaxVer: 16000) means that this is 3dsMax 2014, but the (scriptsPath: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2012\scripts") is wrong. Because this is the modified script can we just check them manually, the 3dsMax version is obtained with this command: "(maxVersion())[1]" and the scripts path - "GetDir(#scripts)". Can You check if they both match the 3ds Max 2014 Design installation?
As far as I've found this standard scripts path can be overridden in the 3dsmax.ini file which resides in the user data path, something like: "C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Local\Autodesk\3dsMa x\2014 - 64bit\ENU". There is a section "[Directories]" with a variable "Scripts", can You check if it is properly set?
Is there something specific to the way 3ds Max is started or are You just using the shortcut created by the installation?

              Best regards,
              Alexander

Okay i think i fixed it. I have been using a hacked up 3dsmax2012 INI file for 2014. There were still some remaining references in it to "2012". So i did a find and replace (2012 to 2014) in the INI file. I restarted MAX and that seemed to have done the trick!
