  • Just a snall "bug" in VRayMtlSelect...

    Hi!

If I change the elementName of a VRayMtlSelect and hit render, the elementName is automaticalle (re)set to the name of the material.

    Greetings!

    edit: snall = small ^^

    Which V-Ray/3DSMax version is that?
I've just run a quick test with 3.00.07/2015 but I couldn't reproduce it.

Sorry, didn't look at this thread again.
VRay 3.00.08 latest nightly, Max 2013. I should have mentioned that I changed the elementName by MaxScript. Sorry! I checked it again and it seems that the elementName does also change if I apply a new material to it.

One of our programmers informed me that this is done intentionally in order to avoid overriding files.
I was wrong about the previous test I did - the name of the element was indeed changed but UI was not updated.

I don't know if I understood that. If I create a VRayMtlSelect render element by MaxScript, change the name of the render element and put a material in the material slot of this render element it is correct for you that the name of this render element changes to the material's name?

I did a workaround for that by making a temporary copy of the name before applying a material and changing back afterwards. The real bad thing was when I figured out that while starting the rendering the name of the render element was again overwritten by the material's name.

          Could you confirm that?

Yes - the MtlSelect Render Element automatically inherits the name of the material assigned to it.

Ok. And it's not gonna be fixed?

This specific behavior was requested by users. You can always change the name of the element *after* you assign the material to it.

                Best regards,

                  Hey Vlado,

but that's the point: when I hit render, the name is AGAIN changed to the material name. At least that's what I recognized by coding a MaxScript.

                  Thanks
