Flickering Hedge

Hi

I made this little animation using this tut:

The hedge, the trees and til Ivy generated plant is flickering too much.
Any ideas what I have done wrong?

For the AA type, instead of adaptive subdivision, maybe try DMC and 2,8 or perhaps 3,12
For the filter try quadratic
For lighcache switch on retrace. And your passes is set to 6, are you using an AMD CPU? Set that to 0 to automatically use all cores for the lc passes

Depending on your glossy material subdivs, the DMC of 3,12 may introduce some noise in your reflection pass in which case you may need to increase the material subdivs of glossy elements

For IRmap the medium preset should be fine. Set interp samples to 40

I will try your settings tomorrow night, at return with the result.

the planes, and that I might had to use two-sidet material for the
leaves...

the flickering looks like gi flicker rather then aa.

That CPU has 6 cores (12 with Hyperthreading ON) Hyperthreading should be on by default in your motherboard BIOS. If it's not, then turn it on. You should get a little extra speed out of your renders.
Now that we know your CPU, you can set LightCache passes to 12 (or just set it to 0 in which case it will use all 12)
You can also switch on LightCache pre-filter and set it to 200 or so

That's AA noise, it just looks like GI because the settings are horrendously low.

Switch to dmc 1,8 or 2,8 like morne said. Don't use a quadratic filter, that makes noise worse. Most people switch the filter off entirely.
The high-animation preset is not for precalculating a GI map - it's for rendering the GI every frame. If you use it to precalc like you have done then it'll take longer and look worse. Just use the medium preset.

this isn't needed. you can do this in the IR map settings. you have yours on the High animation preset. if you want to half the resolution set it to medium animation preset. this changes the min/max rate of the IR maps which is the resolution

I think it looks god, but I'm still not sure where to put in the 2,8 or 3,12 as you said....? min/max.....

It depends on your expectations. If you decide that the noise is too much it would be better to raise the AA settings.
If the quality is good enough it would be better to leave the settings as they are.

I would like to point out a few more things:

*The Image Sampler quality is mainly controlled by the Color Threshold value - if that option is too high Max subdivisions will never be reached.
*For scenes with small details like hair/fur and etc it is required to set the Max Subdivs to a higher number like 12/24/48.
*I would suggest to turn on Camera Path option in IM for this scene - it should give a better result.
*Retrace Threshold option from LC will also help to reduce the flickering but it will also increase render time.

What is the difference between Camera path in the IM and not? The pre calc images look weird, but the final animation looks god...

When Camera Path option is activated V-Ray will calculate IM samples not just from the current-frame camera position but from its entire path.
This is very useful when you have a scene with small details since IM sample will be better distributed in difficult to reach areas.
