  • White edges, antialiasing in elements ?

    Hello,

    I'm following this guide to compose render elements (EXR 32bits) to have maximum flexibility in post-production:

    My only problem is that I'm having white edges with the passes. It's antialiasing problems ?
    Its rendered against a black background (sky added on post)

    And I'm using adaptive image sample min 1 max 8
    In such a simple scene should be enough right ?


    First image is the image composed by the elements. Second is the RGBA channel. Notice the white edges on the first image.

    Anytime your multiplying anti-aliased elements your going to run into problems. Its best if your using only passes in which you intend to add together. However, if you really need the option to adjust the diffuse element in post, then your better off creating the raw element yourself by dividing the diffuse and lighting (or diffuse and gi) to create your own rawlight or rawgi elements. Same goes for raw reflection or raw refraction. This will create a raw element that will not cause edge issues when later multiplied over the diffuse again. I never composite in Photoshop so I'm not sure if you can divide two layers or not. I'm willing to bet there are edge issues in that tutorial too, but in his test scene they would be harder to notice. Its often more noticeable in a scene like yours where you don't have a solid white alpha channel. See how the problem is more noticeable in your renders along the edges of the alpha channel and not as bad in areas where one object is in front of another object (solid alpha).
