  • MotionBlur vs FrameRate

Isn't motionblur suppose to change depending on your 3dsmax framerate?
Or does it get calculated over a certain amount of frames regardless of 3dsmax framerate?

Reason I ask is that I have a cam:
    F20
    Shutter 1/48
    ISO 100

    Framerate 24

That's suppose to look awesome. But when I play back the rendered frames at 24/s it looks terrible. On the other hand the same frames look awesome at 30/s

    Thoughts?
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

The normal proportion for film motion blur is your framerate divided by 2 so you're using a standard 0.5 frame or 180 degree shutter. Are you just changing the playback rate of the footage between 24 and 30 when judging it using the same 24fps 1/48 render?

In terms of the amount of motion blur, it's going to be controlled by how fast everything is moving in your shot. For example really fast moving stuff using 180 degree shutter might be too smeary and difficult to make out - you'd be better off using a 90 degree shutter or 0.25 frames so the blur is lessened and the images look crisper. On the other hand if everything is moving really slowly, you're not going to get much smear out of the motion blur at all so everything might look a bit strobey.

There's a normal amount for motion blur but as with everything, there's no standard "scene" or "animation" so you'll have to adjust to get the look you want.

What do you mean by it looks terrible? Too strobey?
