  • Matte issue - See through glass? What?

    Hi there,
    I'm just freaking out here,
I don't understand, but for some reasons, I can't render out a matte passe of a object through glass.

Here are 2 screen grabs of a simple scene :

Simple integration of a matte pass to comp and it seams unfeasible.
I hope I'm doing something wrong and that I will find quickly the way to make it work, I'm on a tight deadline.
I really think I'm missing something here and that you guys will be able to help me out.

    Cheers

    Hi

a hint, or the propper workflow: use multimatteElement pass and assign the chanels per object or per shader. than you'll get a nice matte. you have to set the refraction settings of your glas material to affect all chanels as well.

you have a little kink in your logic. glas is actually not a matte object in that case, 'cause it refracts the light reflected by the cylinder... that's it.

The proper setup is to turn on Matte option only for the ground object with Matte for Reflection/Refraction activated.
Currently the glass-object is also matte-surface.

        Thanks mate,
I wanted to have the ground as matte.
The only object that I should keep visible should be the tube.
It's actually to composite animated people inside a fly-through animation that was rendered without ppl, if this make sense.

I'm not able to open your max file as it's done in a newer version as mine, I'm still in max 2014, could you export this in 2014 so I can have a look?

        Cheers

Here is the file for 3DS Max 2014 >

I did few small changes to the setup: Gi is now enabled and "affect channels" for the glass material reflection and refraction are changed.

Are you going to composite it or your goal is to get the final animation result from the renderer?
If it's the second, I think this setup will work fine.
