  • Strange Displacement issue

    Hello,

I'm having huge problems with displacement.

I'm using 3d displacement on some piece of geometry (all quads) and I have errors despite the settings used.

I tried with a real low edge length , high subdivs etc.

Im working in centimeters with display in meters.

Can someone give me an insight ?

    Thanks in advance

    *Update

I noticed if I use a noise map to the displacecement this issue disappears.
If I simplify my base geometry this issue also disappears.

How about if I want to use this map and this base mesh ?

    Thanks in advance

How is this object unwrapped? it does look a bit like mapping-seams...

It looks like disconnected vertices, normals or UVs.

The object is a line with a sweep modifier. Then a bunch of meshsmooth modifiers and displace modifiers on top. The mapping is a simple uvwmap box.

I tried to start with a simple box instead the line+sweep and I'm getting the same results.

I guess it would be best to post the scene so that we can take a look at what's wrong.

Thnak you for sending us the scene file.
This is a known issue where the height of the displacement can not match where the seams are meeting each other. You can see here: http://i.imgur.com/2CrppBB.png that the issue only occurs on those exact places where the seams are.

Also there was an discussing on the issue in this thread as well: http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...m+Displacement

To work around the issue you can try unwrapping the object by placing the seems where they wont be visible or create Ptex files instead.

Let us know if we can be of a further assistance.
