  • 3ds max vs vray standalone rendering speed

    Hello,

I am not sure this is the proper section to post this question, the problem is probably more on my side, anyway:

When rendering job inside 3ds max the rendering time is 17min.

When export to *.vrscene: "vrayExportRTScene "y:\000\vray\mat.vrscene"" and render in standalone "vray -scenefile=\\WPC0\Y\000\vray\mat.vrscene -transferAssets=1 -rtEngine=0 -imgFile=\\WPC0\Y\000\vray\ext.exr'' the rendering time is around 50min.

Standalone probably uses different rendering settings to what is setup in my max scene for production rendering. I thought this command which should be as default "-rtEngine=0" tells to use normal rendering settings. Could anybody help me, what is wrong?

    many thanks,
    F

It would be best to get me a scene to look at to vlado@chaosgroup.com; for the scenes that I've tried, render times are quite similar.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Hello Vlado, were you able to see the same issue in my file? Or is there some mistake on my side? Thanks, F

I'm just coming back from the holidays so I didn't have a chance to check this out yet. I hope to give you more info a bit later.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Hello Vlado, hope you had great holidays, no rush on this, its just my personal testing on possibility to mix linux renderfarm with 3ds max/windows workstation, all works perfect, except the rendering times... many thanks, F

A problem was that one of the irradiance map parameters was not exported correctly in the .vrscene file (the "sample lookup" mode). Do you have access to the stable builds (if not, please email support@chaosgroup.com and ask for them)? This will be fixed for the next stable build tomorrow.

                Best regards,
                Vlado
