  • PTEX Vray warnig: Pitex has no mip-maps

while exporting a ptex file out of Mudbox via this procedure

    http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/help...udbox_ptex.htm

i get a warning "PTex file has no mip-maps." I can't find any checkbox in the export dialog of mudbox concerning that issue...

    the objects have UVs.

can't find anything about that in google... any info is very appreciated.

BTW: The rendering looks just fine...

    cheers

Does this issue appears on every scene or just on that one?
What is the exact V-Ray version?
Would it be possible to send us Mudbox and 3DSMax scenes and generated Ptex file?

          well

          a) its the first project I use that workflow
          b) archviz - the scene is huuuuuuuuuuuuuge... would have to extract the concerning geometry, which is of course possible.
          c) vray latest for max 3.10....

Please try to simplify the scene and send us only the problematic geometry - we do not need the complete scene.
FTP could be provided if needed - just let us know.

              Hello sirs.

you may download the files here

              http://89.26.13.201/chaos/ptexError.zip

(still 200 MB, the mudbox file is quite large)

              Max und Mud are 2014
              vray latest 3.10.01

              Thank you very much.

As far as I could observe, the error message comes as soon as a ptex file is attached to the scene only once, it does not reflect the number of ptex files though... looks like it's not in context with particular geometry but the circumstance a ptex file is in the scene, which is sort of very peculiar for me. I have to admit havin' no clue about that one.

and yes the settings in the vraydispl modifier are very rough but render fast... so I work the details with a cavity map out. All maps attached as well...

and one more thing: its a very rough render setup as well... the light is not set properly eather... therefore a very grainy render right of the bat...

EDIT: i saw, there's already a 3.10.02 version ready. the very annoying thing is: do I really have to update first to see the changes and fixes done?

Thanks for attaching your scene file.
It seems that Mudbox doesn't generate mipmaps for low res ptex files. You can increase the "number of texels" parameter in the export dialog to output ptex file with higher resolution.
Then start a new V-ray render test.
