  • HairFarm shadow map crashes Vray

    Hi
I am almost finished installing my new workstation but the last few plugins give my some headaches.

One of them is that the hairfarm shadow map crashes my Vray (3.xx)

Setting the shadows to something else does render (but no hair shadows)
Scanline render does work correct with the hairfarm shadow map.

    I tried the following:
    3dsMax 2015 SP3 + Vray 3.10
    3dsMax 2015 SP3 + Vray 3.008
    3dsMax 2015 + Vray 3.008
    3DsMax 2015 SP1 + Vray 3.008
All with the lasest version of HairFarm (2.4.3.166)

here is the test file which crashes

    hair.zip

    Any thoughts what causes this?

    best

    Hi Menno,

When you are rendering HairFarm with V-Ray you must turn off HairFarm renderer (Hair Display modifier - "Use HairFarm Renderer", also see the HairFarm checkboxes in Environment and Effects). Then you can use the VRayShadowMap in Standart Lights without a problem. Shadows will be calculated properly that way.

Actually my advice is also to use V-Ray lights and VRayHairMtl for more optimized renders.

If it was that easy, it would have already been done

      Hi Peter,

      thanks for your reply,
I tried turning off the render but then Vray still crashes with hairfarm shadow map.
Vray shadow seems to work indeed, but without self shadow on the emitter object.

      So I'll keep testing...
