  • I keep having to replace the camera to make DR work

    Hi,

We are working on a group project in the office at the moment, everyone is in and out of files so it is difficult to tie down where this is coming from...

I keep finding that I'm getting black buckets returned from the the DR nodes, and to fix this I need to create a new camera in the scene and then it works.

It's a bit frustrating, has anyone else here experienced this?

    Vray version is 3.10.02

It could be if some one has a plugin installed that puts additional attributes onto he camera - for example maxwell adds some camera specific attributes to max camera. Then some things stop working, for me it was fbx was crashing during export.

Maybe one of your colleagues has something like that so when he opens a scene it adds some kind of attrs to the camera or something that breaks things...?

We recently had a case where a Vray camera behaved very strange. It looked like it was horizontal shifted, but it wasn´t in the camera settings.
Also it would render either black or totally grainy depending on the distance to a certain object. It turned out the problem came from a Connexion Space Navigator
one of our people used. there was no way to get this one camera to work normal again. So we also had to create new ones.

Thanks Samuel and Dmitry for getting back to me.

I checked for unusual plugins/scripts, but nothing there. It now appears fixed through a reboot of the major suspects PC. It was odd behaviour as follows...

No.1 suspect PC operator was getting no XREFS returned in DR buckets, so I would ask him to save. I would open the file on my PC, hit render and it would just render black, I would then recreate the camera and it would render fine.

So at a loss as to what it is we reboot the suspect PC. He then opens his file, it renders black (as it was on mine) then he recreates his camera and now it works.

So it seems for now the bug is cured; I thought I'd post the symptoms encase it helps anyone else.

Interestingly I do run a 3D connexion mouse, but I don't think it has influenced this.

        Cheers

We have a similar bug reported into our system which appears on scenes with Xrefs and VrayPhysicalCam.
The issue usually disappears if Xrefs are merged into the scene or if VrayPhysicalCam is converted to 3DSMax Standard one.

            Hi Svetlozar,

We loaded the scene this morning and it was rendering black again.

It's quite surprising to find such a big bug. We'll have to switch to Max cameras for now.

Thanks for getting letting us know. Is there a bug list somewhere I can refer to in future?

Yes we have a bug list but it is for internal usage only.
If you are interesting in particular bug we could check and let you know its status.
