  • License server and USB 3 port issue

    Hi,
I've got a puzzling problem. I recently installed a V-Ray 3 trial and once the license server was activated all my USB 3 ports stopped working. To be fair, I don't know for sure that it's the license server that is responsible for the failure, but there is quite a bit of circumstantial evidence that points in that direction:

    1. This has never happened before.
    2. It started at the first reboot after installing the license server.
    3. If I remove the dongle and reboot/startup, one of the USB 3 ports is accessible.
    4. If the dongle is connected during reboot/startup, none of the USB 3 ports are accessible.

The USB 2 ports work fine, though, and that's where I have the dongle connected. I have also checked all the drivers (USB 3 and otherwise) to make sure they are up to date. Nothing makes a difference.

The frustrating thing is that I have only 2 USB 2 ports and one of them is taken up by the dongle. So that means I can only use one of my several external drives.

Has anyone here experienced anything like this before? I haven't tried uninstalling the license server and testing the USB 3 ports yet because I'm hoping someone here will recognize the problem and have a solution.

    Thanks!

Please let us know what is the OS that you are using.
There are some known issues with USB 3.0 port and WIBU-KEY driver, which should be fixed with the latest driver version - 6.30b available for download here:
    http://www.wibu.com/downloads-user-software.html

Would you please try to make a clean install of the latest WIBU-KEY driver 6.30b following the instructions below:
To clean up your WibuKey installation please do the following:
    - Plug out all WibuBoxes.
    - Open the WibuKey Tool in the Control Panel and go to the page "Installation".
    - Press the button "Plug & Play" and reset the Plug&Play mechanism.
    - Uninstall the WibuKey driver using "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.
    - Open the folder [%systemroot%\inf] in the windows explorer.
    - Search within all "oem*.inf" files for the search term "WIBU". Delete all corresponding pnf files (e.g. you found oem345.inf, delete oem345.pnf) and the inf file itself.
    - check if in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers or C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers the files Wibukey*.sys are removed, if not remove them manually.
    - Restart the computer.

Now you are ready to make a clean installation of WibuKey:
    - After reboot re-install the WibuKey driver (version 6.30b). Ensure to have administrative rights. Don't plug in any WibuBox!
    - After installation has finished plug in the WibuBox.
    - The "New Hardware found" dialog will appear and install the new hardware automatically since our driver is certified (since WibuKey Runtime version 5.0)

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks for the fast reply, Tanya. I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64bit, 32GB RAM, Quadro K5000.

I will give this a try and hopefully the problem will be fixed!
