  • VrayRT problems

I'm trying to render an animation using vrayRT.

I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers and have 2 x 980GTX cards.

    I have two separate problems.

    1. When using Cuda I get this error:

Name:	CUDA.JPG
Views:	1
Size:	265.5 KB
ID:	881333

    2. When using OpenCL I get this error:

Name:	openCL.JPG
Views:	1
Size:	185.9 KB
ID:	881334

CUDA works fine (for the most part) when using vrayRT as activeshade but for production it causes the above error.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong ?

VRay 3.1 supports light cache on the GPU (and we enable it only when it is set up as a production render - otherwise it will be recalculated each time you move the camera).

Unfortunately drivers after 344.16 are having problems on Maxwell GPUs when Light Cache is enabled (we are talking with nVidia about that). You have to downgrade your drivers or choose Brute Force - Brute Force from the GI settings.
    Sorry about that.

p.s. Use the CUDA engine on nVidia GPUs - it is much more stable & faster.

Thanks for the response. I'll try out brute force and see how that goes. Cheers

One more thing. Is there a limit to the minimum noise that vrayRT can produce ? I have the max noise level at 0.0 (for now), the max paths/pixel up to 800 (for a small section of the image) and still I'm seeing noise in the shadows. I have the vray light subd's at 280. Not sure what else I can do....

Light Subdivs are not relevant when rendering with RT.
Can you send us a part of the scene for investigation?

800 paths per pixel is (almost) nothing; set it higher to 2000 or 4000 and see if it makes things better.
