  • BUG: Affect background and Lens Effects

    Hi all

    VRay 3 sp1. Seems like a bug

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. New scene
    2. Stick in a vraysun, vraycam
    3. GI BF/LC (didn't try with Irmap/LC)
    4. Take the VRaysky and move it to the VRay Environment override and reflect override
    5. Remove VRaySky from Max environment and just use a diffuse colour.
    6. In color mapping UNTICK affect background
    7. Render
    8. All works fine.
    9. Enable glare and bloom from VFB
    10. Re-Render
    11. Now background turns black as soon as lens effects are added
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

We've just run a quick test following the provided steps but we couldn't reproduce the issue.
Would it be possible to send us a sample scene which contains the issue and a screen-shot of the result you got from it.

Let us also know the exact version/service pack of V-Ray/3DSMax/OS.

It's the latest official build for 3.x and Sp1 (3.10.03)

Here's the settings as in post no1:

This is what I get without lens effects which is what I want:

But when I enable the lens effects, the background goes wonky.

Even if I set all the lens effects to its minimum, the background is still wrong.

I've just managed to reproduce this issue here and it found its spot in our bug tracking system.
It's the combination of Color mapping Affect background, VRayPhysicalCamera exposure and Lens effects that needs to be fixed.

          Thank you for reporting it!
          Best regards!

I don't think we will be able to fix this. Turning off the "affect background" option uses some hacks to get the job done and it's not possible to support this for all the different use cases. It would be best to render against a black background and composite that separately.

              Best regards,
              Vlado
