Since more than one hours I'm facing this new problem.
I tried several scene that face the same issues.
    With DR or without DR.
Seems so far that the only scene that can render is without GI....

    Hi,

Can you check the memory usage at this point of the rendering process? Does it reach the maximum ?

Well, that to late, because I delete all the VFB.
But that clearly something to do witht he VFB history.
I do have 42 Gb Ram on this system.

        Thank you for the update.
Are you able to render the scene now?

If it happens again, please send us the scene file or step by step instructions to replicate the issue here.

The problem occurred to almost all kind of scene, even the basic one with only a teapot.
It takes me a while to find a solution, but after deleting the VFB history, all scene where rendering fine again, even the one with only one teapot.
So again, from my own experience, that's clearly something to do with the VFB history.

            That's very strange.
How many images you had in the VFB history? Also how big they was?
In my test, I wasn't able to get high memory consumption with several hi-res images. Can you give me a scene file or a step by step instructions on how to replicate it here?
