nuclear war splotches

    hi Svetlozar,

    sorry for repeating that late, i was in easter holidays.

    i tested it today and converted the scene as you said with all three points ticked.
    ...same problem as before.

    did it work for you, if you render it 5 times? all okai for you?

      Hello Thomes,

      Actually the issue is because of the Multiscatter objects, we have seen this with other our clients. Unfortunately it is very random issue and on some of the machines, that we have does not happen even after 10 renders.
      We will talk with our developers and most probably will report it as a bug.

        Our problem turned out to be due to an incorrect value for our SSS shader "phase function". Setting this to 0 fixed the problem for us without breaking the look of the material, but this may not apply to other scenes.

          What was the incorrect value? If you still have the scene, I would very much like to take a look at it.

            I think it was something in excess or less than 1 / -1, so perhaps beyond the range that would be physically correct/possible.

            I think we've already sent the scene in to your support team; I think Pete Addington (lone robot) was the one to submit the support request. I can find out for you if required. I don't think the people that looked at the scene picked up the shader setup as an issue. They seemed to think the latest nightly fixed the issue. We tried that but the issue remained until someone here tried adjusting the SSS settings.

                I thought this was caused by an object in the scene with a material+texture but with no UVW coordinates? I didn't think it mattered what type of material it was.

                Just a thought.

                  I'm trying the scene now; I don't see problems with the latest nightly build, but let me try the 3.10 one.

                    I think I'm getting the same issue. Most the time it renders fine, and then suddenly it renders with crazy colours everywhere. I've been submitting tile jobs using deadline, so some tiles are fine, others are not..
                    Using Max 2015 with V-Ray 3.10.03, think the scene was made with max14 V-Ray 2.5

                          news...got the splotches on a small model with only one grey-vray material and one sort of trees - itrees no multiscatter !
                          so the problem is connected with the trees.i think it has to do with the material of the leaves. if i copy the trunkmaterial over to the leaves, the problem is no more.

                          hopefully you can track it now? i send you the file, vlado. hope it´s okai.
