  • How to render Matte without reflections?

    Hi there,

I think I posted this before, but I can neither find the post nor remember the answer, so I´l have to post this again:

I recently had to rerender some parts of a machine with lots of metal materials.
So I simply checked "Matte" and "Alpha=-1" for all other parts.
But in the rendering the reflections of those Matte objects got rendered again, even if they don´t show up in the alpha channel.
Which of course unnecessarily adds to the render times.

I guess they need to be rendered as well, so thy show up properly in the non-matte parts reflections and this cannot be avoided, right?
It just seems like a waste of rendering ressources, if the object-reflections beeing rendered are using up most of the images part and the non-matte parts i actually need are just very small in comparison...

But I guess the only workaround for this would be to just use an override material without reflections for that render pass, maybe make it a neutral color and hope those objects don´t show up too much in the reflections of the parts ai actually need to re-render....
    Right?

In the vray properties for that object, set the reflection amount in the lower right corner to 0.

Ah, great, that seems to do the trick, thanks a lot!
