  • License problems after vray 3 update

I have problems with licenses beeing in use after the update. I get an 1002 error when someone else is rendering.
We have to 2 dongles where each holds 10 licenses and another 3 where each holds just one.
All dongles are attached to workstations. The rendernodes have those two workstations with the 10 license dongles
set as license server. When someone else is rendering all licenses are in use and I can“t even render local wihtout DR because
the 11. workstation license is in use to. In vray 2 we had the a similar setup, where 2 workstations would act as license server
for the rendernodes. When all were in use, one could still render local without DR.

The status page looks like this.
V-Ray for 3ds Max 3.0 Total Engaged Free
    Interface licenses 1 0 1
V-Ray Render Node 3.0 Total Engaged Free
    Render licenses 11 11 0

The problem seems to be it uses 11 licenses from the dongle instead of 10 wich also includes the
license to render local on the workstation. Is there any solution to this problem ?

The license policy for V-Ray 3.x is different from the one for V-Ray 2.x

You need Render Node 3.0 license for each machine that is used for rendering regardless if you are using DR or rendering locally.

One V-Ray 3.0 Workstation license for 3ds Max consist of 1 Interface(GUI) license and 1 Render Node 3.0 license.
The interface license allows you to use V-Ray menus in 3ds Max GUI. You will be able to use V-Ray plugin in 3ds Max's interface, navigate V-Ray Render Setup menus, use materials , etc. This license is not used for rendering.
The Render Node 3.0 license is used only for rendering. When you start a render job with one machine it always takes one Render Node 3.0 license, regardless it is on your workstation or on render slave machine.
For example if you use V-Ray on your local machine only, set up a scene in 3ds Max with V-Ray and start render job, it should take one Interface license and one Render node license.
You need Render Node 3.0 license for each machine that is used for rendering.
