  • Autodesk Point Cloud Obj doesnt render when pivot out of view

Subject says it all - after much troubleshooting why a point cloud wouldn't render in our scene, finally figured out that it renders fine when the object's pivot is within frame, but as soon as I pan the view to the left and the pivot goes out of frame, the points disappear entirely.

    1.8Gb .rcs, 80million points

swap to mental ray from the same viewpoint and all the points appear, swap back to VR and no points. Pan the view so pivot in frame, points render. Have tried doing reset transform, reset pivot, centering the pivot, creating a new point cloud object, all results stay the same. Moving the pivot won't make it render as it's when the original pivot location goes out of view that it gets clipped. The full bounding box of the loaded points is in frame (selection brackets) but the source object pivot is farther away as the points aren't located at object local 0,0.

Hm. Can you get me a scene for this?

    Best regards,

Here's a quick screen recording. I dug further trying to get a scene that reproduces it and my current theory is it has to do with rotating the point cloud object and it being culled thinking it's out of frame.

I can send in a max & rcs file if you want, but I don't think there's anything special about them. Default scene with just a recap file, then rotate it and play with the view just right (see video).
