  • Alembic cache rendered as black box and crashes 3ds max using all available RAM

    Hi
I simulated sand in Houdini and then export as alembic cache. (as usual)
Then I imported abc as vrayproxy and hit render.
First 35 frames rendered perfect (fast and with small use of RAM, as usual). On frame 36 I see black box (when rendering) and 3ds max start using (very fast) all my RAM (32 GB). Then crashes.
After 37 frame I didn't see anything, only huge use of RAM and then crash.
I tried re-simulate this file many times and result every time the same.
Please, help me! Why this happens?
    My abc-file - http://feedback.3dyuriki.com/abc/wormsand8.rar
    P.S. V-Ray 3.1, 3ds max 2014 SP5.

Thank you for attaching the alembic file for this issue.
The error is reproduced here as well : "Invalid geometry normal " and the whole frame is empty. We are investigating now.

      I found what cause problem.
When I simulate sand in Houdini, sand fall "under ground" (in direction to negative Y-axis). So particles of sand have huge minus by Y coordinate.
When I lift sand more above "ground" problem gone.

Why vraypoxy don't understand particles with -Y coordinate?

        Hi,

the problem is that after frame 36 in your particle positions appear some broken floats (1.#QNAN). From tomorrow's nightly we drop such particles, so you will be able to render your alembic.

        Best regards,
        Asen

You can email support@chaosgroup.com and ask for access to the nightly builds - explain that you have a problem that is fixed there.

            Best regards,
            Vlado
