  • Subtle Procedural Displacement Flickering

I am displacing an object with some procedurals, including noise, cellular, a couple Bercon Noises combined with composite maps.

I am seeing some subtle flickering (changes) in the displacement. It only happens in a few places. The whole surface is NOT crawling.

I have a VRayDisplcement modifier on the object. This is set to Use Obj Mtl, and the displacement is plugged into the VRayMtl.

I am using tight bounds and keep continuity on, as well as cache normals.

The displacement is 3d, set to view dependent. Edge length is 5pixels. Texture min -1.0 max 0.5

I tried setting filtering on the Bercon Noises to 0.

Any other thoughts on how to prevent the flickering? It is pretty subtle, and probably tolerable for my current project, but it is not ideal.

    Thanks.

if the camera is moving it could be view dependency. You can lower edge length in that case, or switch view dependent off, then it uses scene grid unit scale so adjust edge length that way it should not modify displacement from that setting.

Ok. Cool. I was wondering if that might fix it, but I didn't want to disturb my setup. I will try that on the next shot in the group, and see if it is stable.

The camera is locked off, but the object is moving slightly. So that is probably it.

      Thanks!
