  • rt gpu driver crash, only when used as production renderer.

ive got horrible rendertimes on my current scene ( swimming pool with slatted wood cieling and heavily textured rough stone walls)

so i thought id try RT.. to my surprise the scene fitted in the ram of my 4gb card (only used about 2gb) and in active shade started updating as expected.

of course i wanted to try with lightcache so i switch to rt as production renderer.

now it gets halfway through the first screen update ( starting from the centre outwards, gets halfway to the edge of the image) then my gpu driver crashes.

this happens with lc or bf as secondaries.

usually i get this effect when my gpu ram is full, but in this case, not even close.

also odd it seems to work in active shade but not as production.

there are no funky bits in the scene, few vray lights, some ggx shaders is about as exotic as it gets.

ive tried updating to the latest drivers.. exactly same issue.

    gtx 670 4gb.

EDIT! since driver update its now crashing driver also in active shade.

The latest driver crashes with V-Ray RT; you'll have to revert to an older one. Or, since we have a fix for this, if you want I can get you a new build - you can email me to vlado@chaosgroup.com; maybe it will help with your original crashing issue too.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

Btw, 350.12 seems to be most robust driver you can get at the moment, you may try it - http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...px/83819/nl-nl ...

ok im getting really bogged down on my job now.. im barely able to do a test render ( 2000x1500 test is unreadably noisy after 10 hrs rendering on 2 oc'ed 6-cores) and ive tried every combination of vray settings i can think of.

even the irradiance map with 100 subdivs has an eta of 9 hrs at that res.

my last hope (and its a feeble one given my lack of gpu power) is that rt gpu can give me some faster feedback.

could i get that build that fixes the crash issue? i tried the suggested 350 driver but i still get a driver crash.

Yes, just emailed you back - let me know what Max version you need it for and I'll get you a download link.
