Rendering server without Windows?

Hello,
I'm wondering if there is a way to get vray rendering on server without win OS.
How are the render farm dealing with that? When looking at the price of the win server license, I'm pretty sure they have a way to get the server rendering without windows.

The only way to render on Linux is a) to use Maya or b) to export .vrscene files and render with V-Ray Standalone - which has its own drawbacks (like 3rd party Max plugins not working because there is no 3ds Max).

I doubt that render farms are using something other than Windows though since they support a number of Max plugins. I don't know if it has to be a server Windows OS though.
