  • vray environment and vray HDRI dome mess up!

Hello, I' m trying since 2 days to get a scene with:
    - one Vray Dome light with HDRI in texture slot for the lighting
    - One Bitmap map set to the environment (F to used as background

When I render, it is the Vray HRDI Dome texture map that came up in the background and not the environment image.

I probably do something wrong but I can't figure out how to light a scene with one HDRI and render the background with another image (and not the one plug into the dome light texture slot)!

Thanks for your help.Click image for larger version

Just check "Invisible" option in Dome Light.

Also, use a black GI override (or your hdri), otherwise your bg image is contributing to your GI for the shot, which is odd when in screen mode.

Thanks, In GI environment or only inGI reflection/refraction environment?

Ah good question, if you set reflection/refraction environment to black then your scene will reflect from your dome light. (unless affect reflections is checked.) Otherwise it will pick up your bg image, so good call there. I should have mentioned it.

Well, here are a test...that failed to proove anything.
In terms of beauty pass, It doesn't make any difference, neither in the Global Env Override slot or in the Env reflection/refraction slot.
But when black reflection/refraction slot is tick, it doesn't affect the teapot but the glass windows!

I probably have to raise the quality of the GI to see really the difference in the beauty pass and then see a rendering time improvement.
" (unless affect reflections is checked.)" what are you referring to?

after testing, I really thing that it doesn't make any difference as seen below.
The test have been done in Spherical Env coordinate, but in screen mode it is the same result.

I never use this. I think when used DomeLight, background image doesnt makes any influence to GI, because its override by dome light. When you check "Invisible" option as I mention before, dome light is not visible, but its still override GI lighting as it does when is visible.

In other words - if dome light is visible, override any influence of background image + background is not visible. If dome light has invisible check, its still the same, background image does not any influence + background is visible.
