  • Returned an invalid bump normals

Okay, not a V-Ray issue, or at least I don't think. I ended up buying Evermotion 154, which are tropical trees. Now, I am getting around 2000 'returned an invalid bump normal' errors. Should they be ignored, or do they need to be addressed? If they need to be addressed, what's the issue?

Here, is one of the culprits. It seems that it's from my Evermotion 85 libraries.

Do the objects have proper UV coordinates?

      Best regards,

gosh, I don't know. I guess I buy these things assuming they'll work. I'll look deeper when the render is done.

With all these warnings, it might take a while though...

The tree tree looks fine. It has been collapsed, so I don't see the UVW Mapping mod.

You can look at the UVW channels with a UVW unwrap modifier. If you like, you can also send me the tree along with the normal map to vlado@chaosgroup.com and I will take a look at what's wrong.

                Best regards,
                Vlado

For now, I turned off bump using VMC. The trees are not close, so hopefully it'll not matter for this scene. When I get a change I'll email you a tree.

I was getting this with the HD Palms pack. Turns out they were overriding all the normal map gammas to 2.2 (I can't imagine why), and changing them back to 1.0 fixed it.

I've had issues with those trees before. Swapping out the the vanilla bump/normal node for a vray one remedied the situation. Was getting bucket mismatches.

You would think that they would have better quality control. I mean, don't they test the?

                            Bobby,
I have a script that will replace max normal bumps with vray ones.
PM me if you want it.
