3.2 installer for max 2014 x64 thinks max is open but it isn't...

Not sure why though. Tried different user accounts too in case of some kind of weird user corruption, but nada. Worked fine for the 2016 installer.

Any chance there is a switch to skip the 3dsmax check similar to -a in DOS?

Look in the task manager for the 3dsmax.exe process (make sure "Show processes from all users" is enabled). Maybe you have the V-Ray spawner running as DR service or something.

It was the spawner service. Didn't show any 3dsmax.exe in the task manager (had checked before posting) but didn't think about the spawner. Turning it off fixed it immediately. Thanks!
