  • Turn off Reflections *only* in Alpha

    Hi there,

as much as I love Vray supporting Reflections in alpha since a while i ran into a problem lately.

I had to rerender an old scene where i setup my Reflections with vray extratex dirt and combined it with the alpha.

Now i had to retouch this scene but i wasnt able to turn off the Reflections in alpha without turning it off in the beauty pass as well.

So i wasnt able to get the exact look of my old scene where i combined the alpha with the vray extratex.

How can i turn reflections in alpha off to how it was before vray 2.3 ?

I am on vray 3.2 ....and my reflection for the materials is set to color only.

    Cheers

    Björn

hmm, a separate render pass without reflections I think.
Just lighting and shadows and one simple V-Ray shader.

Or use the Reflection exclude list to remove any unwanted reflections on the ground.

I allread tried that...but when i exclude the reflection it will also disapear in the beauty pass.

In vray 2.3 you had to set the reflection of the matte material to color+alpha to let the reflections show up in the alpha channel.

This was way more flexibel in my opinion.

Is there no way to get beack to this *legacy* mode ?

In fact there is no unwanted Reflection...i just dont want it to be visible in the alpha.

V-Ray 3 works like that by default, if the matte surface is reflective, then all reflections will affect the alpha channel. Actually this was requested a lot of times in the past.

However, if you need to use them separately, the render should be on 2 passes (second region render for the matte surface only).
*) one with disabled reflection for the material used with V-Ray Wrapper shader to get only shadows
*) second with reflective material and ExtraTex (with Dirt map) render element to get the reflections

Yeah infact I love the way vray is working like this right now ...but as i mentioned before it would be way more flexible if this would be on by default with option to disable it too.

Other then that ,How can I set it on 2 Passes ?

              Never done this before.

Is it possible to render it in one run ?

              Cheers Björn

This should work for you i think:

Unfortunately I can't find a way to do that on one go. We have to consider an option to switch this matte behavior On and Off, if possible at all.
