  • Multi/Sub-Object and Bad Normals

I just installed V-Ray 3 today and been doing some test rendering of old jobs that were rendered with V-Ray 2, too compare and see if there were anything different. It seems if you have an object with normals facing the wrong way and Multi/Sub Object material applied. The Object will rendered black. Force 2 sided is turned on, Tested force back face culling.
I tested it on 3 different machines and got the same results. I created a Box and Light source. Put a Normal modifier on the box. Created two materials one a Multi/sub w materials in every slot and the other just a standard material. Place Multi/Sub on box, hit render everything is fine. Check flip normals, box turns black. Put the single material on, box renders with material.

Is there a fix for this, other than fixing sloppy modeling.

Sorry if this is a re-post, I search and nothing came up that applied

Im not sure if it would work but if you havent already maybe try setting your "secondary rays bias" to something like 0.001 under the Global switches

      I tried. No differences.
I believe I used that setting a few yrs back to clean up some co-plainer faces on a model. I can upload a basic file if you want to take a look it.

Can you post such an object here, or send a scene to support@chaosgroup.com so that we can check what's wrong?

        Best regards,
        Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.
