  • Dongle keeps dropping out

    Hi,

My Vray Licence keeps dropping out frequently throughout the day. To fix this all I need to do is to unplug it and plug it back in again and it works for a while.

    What should I be checking?

    Thanks

    Dan

My guess is the first thing I would check is the WIBU key driver and make sure you have the latest. I know there was an issue a while back with that and it was fixed in a recent update.

Thanks for the response, but this is a new machine. I have just used the latest vray 3.2 installer.

Are your drivers for your motherboard up to date? USB, BIOS... thats all I can think of off of the top of my head. Oh and is the dongle plugged in a USB 2 or 3 port? I had some issues in the past with USB3 and just use the USB2 port and all has been right as rain...
        Cheers,

I have installed the latest Chipset and USB drivers from the Asus website for my X99-S and I have also tried various USB 2 and 3 slots on the motherboard, plus those in my monitor hub :-/

Unless someone from Chaos chimes in sooner I would be tempted to reinstall V-Ray and force it it reinstall the WIBU drivers just to completely rule that out. Other that the previous suggestions I can not think of anything else off of the top of my head unfortunately.

Have you disabled the 'USB Selective Suspend' in the Windows 'Power Options'? That can cause the same problem at times.
I had the exact same problem with the WIBU key frequently dropping my license on my new Windows 8.1 workstation. I had to flash the BIOS, update USB and WIBU key drivers (make sure the WIBU runtime is version 6.30b, if not then download it from the WIBU website), and disable USB selective suspend option. I haven't had the problem occur for more than a month now.

OK thanks for the tip guys, I have downloaded and installed the WibuKey driver from their website Ver6.30b. (I'd already disabled USB selective suspend in the power options.) I've plugged it directly into the motherboard on a USB 2.0 port. Let's see how this goes..

it would not be the first time a dongle has been faulty if you can't fix it have it replaced.

OK well it didn't drop all night, which is an improvement already. All though I did update the WIBU driver, I got a little impatient and investigated the USB BIOS settings deeper. So I also made the following changes to the BIOS settings:

                      Motherboard ASUS X99-S

                      Intel xHCI Mode: ENABLED
                      EHCI Legacy support: DISABLED
                      xHCI Hand-off: ENABLED
                      EHCI Hand-off: DISABLED

Basically I read windows 7 can handle EHCI legacy support and Hand off by itself. And I figured locking xHCI mode to Enabled rather than auto detect would be more stable. After alteration my USB devices (2.0 and 3.0) are performing fine, and like I say early days but so far so good for the WIBU dongle.

I will come back if I have any further issues.

                      Dan
