  • Scene rendered in Max2016/VRay3.20.02 too bright

Its early days in my testing moving over to Max2016 from Max2014 and at the same time going to VRay 3.20.02 from VRay 3.10.01 but I am having some issues with renders looking too bright.

The scene is quite straightforward at the moment. I'm just investigating, but other than the obvious places (gamma + lut settings, exposures etc) where should I be looking? I have literally opened up the scene from Max2014/VRay3.10.01 in Max2016/VRay3.20.02 and clicked 'render'.

Should I expect them to be more or less the same?
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

Did you also check your Vfb settings? sRGB and such?

As far as I can tell, it is set up as it should be. 'Display colours in sRGB spece' is checked in the Vfb.

I´m sorry.. i can't provide the scene. The "old" version of it were removed and i fix the problem by adjusting the aperture of the PhysicalCamera.

The only thing i can offer: the rendering appears brighter after we moved from 3.20.01 to 3.20.02.
                Maybe this helps.

                Cheers!

Most probably this case is different from the original problem reported by Richard. There is lighting difference between 3.1 and 3.2 due to a bug in the sampler when IES lights are used and Probabilistic lights is enabled.
To be honest, it will be difficult to find where is the problem without a scene file. Do you have any render examples to show us ?

                    Hi

I have just noticed this brighter issue since installing 3.2 - In my scene it is the Vray IES lights that are making the image brighter by the looks of it and I have probabilistic lights turned off.....

It is very odd that you get lighting difference between V-Ray version 3.20.01 and 3.20.02. There wasn't any changes or bug fixes related to the lights.
If you manage to reproduce the issue again in your environment, please save the file and send it to support at chaosgroup.com

Hi Tashko, thanks for your reply.

Sorry for any confusion, we jumped from version 3.10.02 to 3.20.02

                          Thank you for the clarification.
Then it will be best if you can send us any scene file that reproduces the issue in order to troubleshoot further.

You mention you're going from MAX 2014 to 2016 at the same time. Might it have something to do with the new physical camera/environment exposure settings?
                            A.

For backward compatibility our V-Ray Physical camera is preserved in Max 2016. Therefore scenes created with Max version prior to 2016 will still render the same in 3DS Max 2016.

The lighting difference of the original issue here is due to a bug in the V-Ray 3 SP1 (3.10) in the Probabilistic lights code.
